"Vlaams Belang is a party that wants European cooperation , but not the European Union . With this we are opening a new chapter in the Flemish politics. “ as confidently stated in the speech of the Vlaams Belang Chairman Gerolf Annemans during the Europe Festival that took place on the 29th September in Belgium. European Foundation for Freedom took part in the organisation of this event that gathered youth representatives from different European countries for a Youth forum session, offered presentation of books and research, interviews, and one to one communication with highly ranked politicians. The event was attended by more than 2,000 people and took place on the 29th September 2013 in Boom (Antwerp Province).

Besides a lot of edge animation it was during this event that Vlaams Belang presented the recent developments in the political positioning of the party on the European level. Vice President Barbara Beware pointed out that “It’s just for the love of Europe that they are such an EU - critical party.”

Vice President Chris Janssens presented at this European family day the book “Pro Europe - against the EU’’. This record book of the European symposium that took place last year is a collection of views and policy proposals on how we can reduce the single European state and give back the power where it really belongs, to the people and therefore the sovereign nations, “said Chris Janssens.

Turkey is not a member of the EU

During the well-attended session with MEP and EAF Vice- President Philip Claeys, he warned of the impending wave of immigration next year when the borders with Bulgaria and Romania are going to be fully open. He also accused the European Commission that despite the many human rights violations, it continues to negotiate Turkish accession.

"Turkey is not a European country. Not yesterday, not today and it is not going to be one tomorrow. Never! “

During the day Claeys presented to the public his new book “Inside without a Call’‘on the European open borders policy.

Euro Critical front

Marion Maréchal Le Pen was one of the most distinguished guests of the event, Member of the French Front Nationale and one of the youngest representatives in the French National Assembly.

In her speech, the young FN parliamentarian called out for unity in the fight against the dictates given from Brussels and Strasbourg. She called out for a creation of a strong front of all euro critical parties that will stand in favour of Europe and against the EU dictatorship at the time when the future of our accumulated standard of living and our European values are thrown up for grabs by the EU.

Annual General Meeting 2012

In December the EFF held the annual general meeting, in Strasbourg (Chateud’Ile, Ostwald). During the meeting Sharon Ellul Bonici gave an overview of the separation of staff which will benefit both organisations, in order to ensure accomplishments set for future period. The Members unanimously approved the changes and appointed the new Board members. December period will serve as a transitional period while in 2013 the new Board will fully take over the management of the Foundation as all Members had accepted their new appointments and responsibilities.

An update on the expenditure and activity plan was given for the benefit of the new Board. An explanation on pending work and activities was also conducted. Concerning the upcoming activities, it was decided that P. Claeys will represent the Foundation on the issue on the political situation in South Africa, and that all research must be done an finalised and book to be published in 2014. After the meeting a dinner followed where all members present and guests could exchange views on how to further achieve the Foundation’s goals.

Pro Europe, against this EU

On the 24th November the EFF co-hosted a conference in the Flemish Parliament in Brussels, entitled ‘Pro Europe, against this EU’ with the aim of encouraging the debate about another Europe, leaning towards alternative solutions to the Europe which we have now. An alternative Europe of freedom which derives sovereignty and political power from citizens of independent states.

EFF is particularly pleased that the conference welcomed speakers like Thierry Baudet (Northern Netherlands) and Sam van Rooy (Flanders), authors and editors of high-profile books that lifted the debate on a European scale.

The conference was opened by the Vice-President of European Alliance for Freedom, and Member of European Parliament, Philip Claeys, where he gave his view on the European political reality and the inability of the European establishment in dealing with the on-going, both political as well as financial crisis.

The most challenging part of the conference was the panel debate with young politicians coming from different political parties:

This panel debate opened a new path for cooperation of youth organizations with the similar political idea, and showed that critical debate is not a call for a closed Europe but for a Europe of cooperation. It was the perfect occasion to highlight the need for an alti-Europe not anti-Europe, since all the speakers agreed that this EU is not functioning properly and it is time to look for possible alternative solutions.

Holzfeind believes that is the right moment to stop the endless demand for money from Brussels, and to prove that the Member States are indeed, the one who could use the funds efficiently on the national level. All participants also agreed that EFTA could be the pointer to the right direction and one of the possible solutions. Van Grieken highlighted that all eurocritical parties today in Europe encounter problems in action taking, and that this debate is often far away from the public. Rochedy addressed the issue of the Eurozone and took the Swedish example of a Euro free country which is less if at all affected by the financial crisis, than the countries of the Eurozone. ‘’ If Euro would disappear, it would be the end of this policy of nonsense and the states could make conjunctions on their own’’ - concluded Rochedy.

When asked about the possibility of forming a southern/ eastern block of European countries, Kasselstrand replied that he doesn’t find it a practical nor a functional solution, ‘’tight cooperation is possible only between similar countries, and even then it is hard to develop a common policy to suit everyone’s need’’ he concluded. Coming from Sweden, which refused to give up on their national currency, and doesn’t suffer from the euro instability, Kasselstrand is more worried about the multiculturalism that is a product of the EU, and that is little by little eating up the left overs of the Swedish culture.

Holzfeind also expressed his fears about the disappearance of the national identity throughout the EU that is especially visible in small states. As a conclusion to the debate Van Grieken offered a simple historical lesson: ‘’ Competition in innovation and technologies made Europe as a continent stronger against Europe and China, in days of sovereign states’’. The only competition that can be found in Europe today is about the redistribution of the funds in the EU budget.

The conference was closed by Sam van Rooy’s presentation on ‘More EU = more multicultural and less Flemish’.
